Franklin, Tennessee is located in Williamson County, some 21 miles south of Nashville. The city was founded in 1799 and named after Benjamin Franklin. It has a lot of history, one being that the bloodiest battle of the Civil War took place there. Because of its history, and the many historic places still existing, it has become a popular tourist stop. It was a site of the Battle of Franklin and became a field hospital after the battle. Nearby the McGavock Confederate Cemetery was established in 1866, holding the remains today of almost 1,500 southern soldiers.
